DO YOU NEED PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH WEIGHTS OR TO BE FIT BEFORE YOU START?
Noooo. We are here to teach you how to do this stuff safely, and with your challenges and priorities in mind. Sure you can do lots of things on your own, but if that was actually going to get more than a week or two beyond you just thinking it . . . well, you’d have done it already. Our community is comprised of everyday people, most of whom started with no real experience and what they felt was a low level of fitness. You can start the journey where you are today and if you continue to follow our program, you can get into the best shape of your life.
IT LOOKS REALLY HARD!!
I know, we’ve seen the competitions on TV too! They are high level athletes, competing!! The same as the world champs (or even the NZ National Champs) of any sport is far more intense/hard core than those doing it as a lifestyle sport or purely for recreational/health purposes.
What we are about is appropriate and realistic intensity for each athlete, mixed in with proper and adequate recovery and a good dose of common sense.
HOW CAN YOU PROVIDE THE SAME LEVEL OF ATTENTION TO A GROUP AS A PERSONAL TRAINER?
When you go to other gyms it is unlikely you will get any one-on-one unless you are paying a full PT fee (yes, some have classes as a part of their membership where you could pretty much do the same thing at home).
Our classes are capped to have a client/coach ratio that allows for safety and technical support
YOU’VE SEEN SOMEONE WHO HAS SHARED ONE OF ‘THOSE’ VIDEOS – IS THAT REALLY WHAT IT’S LIKE??
We agree, they look dangerous, but no matter what someone has put in the title, they aren’t CrossFit! The thing is, when someone comes along and starts something great (CrossFit for example), there are always people who try to knock it, or do a poor job of imitating it. So, if you have seen one of those, know that it is not what we are about. You can see exactly how we operate and make an informed decision when you do our free intro session.
PEOPLE SAY ANYONE CAN RUN A CF BOX AFTER ONLY A WEEKEND OF TRAINING
We’ve heard that chucked around too. Guess what, anyone can run or work in a gym in NZ with NO qualifications, and just because they state they are registered with some official body or have passed their introductory level course, doesn’t mean they will treat you well or coach you as well as someone else might. Our best suggestion is to do your homework. Above qualifications see how long they have worked in the industry, check their work history references. Then check out the facility – pay attention to how they get movements across to people. How are the trainers interacting with the people. Are they looking for and making small corrections, are they safety first, or are they just cheerleaders. As an institution we are constantly looking at ways of upskilling and improving our coaches. We know you aren’t coming here to rest on your laurels, so we don’t either.
